Biography |
An
«evanescence» is a kind of evaporation, long, and
slow, like some fumes... And we can say now it is not a very
well-chosen name, since Evanescence has today produced 2 international
albums!
Evanescence is, above all, an unordinary atmosphere: a mix between
gothical music, noe-metal guitar sounds, with dark rock rythms,
dark lyrics, and a marvellous voice, sensual and really strong,
which can only be admired!
Evanescence was born in Arkansas, America, a long time ago.
Amy Lee and Ben Moody (guitarist and writer) met while they
were teen-agers, in a camp for young people. Ben was impressed
by Amy's voice, and asked her to shape a band with him. They
were finally discovered in the town of Little Rock, in the late
90's. Influenced by many artists like Björk, Danny Elfman
and Tori Amos, Evanescence began to produce EPs in 1998-1999
(Extended Plays: vinyl or CD records that contains more than
one single but are too short to be qualified as albums.)
In 2000, «Origin», their first album, comes out,
thanks to the help of David Hodges, writer and singer.
A little time before recording «Fallen», David left
Evanescence; and two new members arrived: John Lecompt as a
guitarist, and Rocky Gray, behind his drums. Later, William
Boyd joined the group as a basist.
«Fallen» was recorded in Los Angeles by Dave Fortman.
«Bring Me To Life», a piano ballad with heavy riffs
is chosen for «DareDevil» BO. This was an important
point for their carrieer, and probably the most important! Thanks
to songs like «Hello, Imaginary, Haunted or Tourniquet»,
«Fallen» shows different styles, while keeping its
own atmosphere.
Since «Fallen», Evanescence's succes keeps growing,
until 16th October 2003, in Paris, where the band performed
its first show in France, and realised that the french public
is by far the more welcoming one. That's why they will record
their first live DVD in «Le Zénith», six
months later. Then William left the group and Tim Mc Cord took
his place.
The last even that we can notice now is their last album, «The
Open door», which came out on October 3rd 2006. This album
is more personal and darker the «Fallen», and shows
that the group has evolved since their beginning... |
