Jamiroquaï
Is an English group directed by the singer Jay Kay.
Jamiroquaï was born during the nineties, with the wave of the Acid Jazz but Jamiroquaï regroup also other kind of music such as ; funk, disco, or electric music.
The name Jamiroquaï: is composed of « Jam- » in reference to Jazz and « -iroquaï » in reference to the Indian Iroquois.
Today Jamiroquaï is known in the whole world with their originality and their creativities.

The composition of the group:
Jason Kay :
(say Jay) was born in England the 30 of December in 1969. He is the singer of the group. The history of the group started with his failed audistion for become the singer of the group of rock : « Band New Heavies ». He is compared to Stevie Wonder. But Jay Kay is a singer with values and he act for the environnement in his music and in his life. He is also known for Its many luxury cars.
Rob Harris : He joined as guitarist of Jamiroquaï in 2000. He was born in 1971 and he started playing at the age of 7. His musical influences are « The Crusaders », George Benson, and his biggest inspiration for him was Jimi Hendrix. His first album with Jamiroquaï was « A Funk Odyssey ».
Sola Akingbola : He joined Jamiroquaï in 1995 as percussionist. He was born in 1965 in Nigeria and he was a lot of influenced by African music. His first album with Jamiroquaï was « Travelling Without Moving ».
Derrick McKenzie : He joined the band in 1994 for the album « Return of the Space Cowboy ». He was born in 1964 with drumming in his blood. His musical influences are classic soul artists like Patrice Rushen, and virtuoso musicians like Prince and his drumming hero Billy Cobham.
Matt Johnson : He joined the Jamiroquaï’s family in 2001 as pianist. His musical influences are Herbie Hancock and Miles Davies.
Paul Turner :

 

He is the lastest to join the band in 2005 as bass player. He has already played for other famous singer such as: Annie Lennox, Omar, and Mica Paris, and he participated for the conception of « Down To The Bone » wich has had great success in America.
