Basquiat was an American painter born on 22nd December
1960 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents' different cultures were
an important source of inspiration. Moreover, when he was 7, he
was hospitalized and in order to pass the time, his mother gave
him a book “Gray's Anatomy”. Basquiat loved the pictures
in the book which inspired his artwork afterwards.

In 1977, when he was 17, JMB and his friend
Al Diaz began spray painting graffiti art and JMB signed with the
famous “SAMO” When he began to be famous, he stopped this
activity. In 1984, many of Basquiat's friends were concerned about
his excessive drug use starting from his early years. |

Basquiat’s success was increasing, his paintings
(Some Kind of Monster, Profit I, etc) were shown in solo exhibitions
in a lot of major European capitals. But in 1988, JMB died of a
drug overdose, he was just 27 years old. He is now considered as
a leading figure in modern art during the 20th century.
