o The day of the schemes presentation for the architecture examination,
the empress Eugénie, going against Charles Garnier, said
him : “What is this style? It is not Greek, neither Louis
XV, nor Louis XVI!” And Charles Garnier answered : “It
is Napoleon III style” (emperor of France who wanted to renovate
Paris). The emperor whispered to Charles Garnier : “Don’t
worry, she doesn’t know anything”, the Napeleon III
style was born!
o Garnier Opera was the 13th opera hall built in Paris ; the monumental
chandelier of the great room fell down on the 13th seat and a “petit
rat” fell mortally from a gallery to the 13th step of the
great stair.
o Some words can’t be pronounced in an opera like “the
noose” as on a boat. This tradition comes from the past because
machinists were sailors!
