History of the city  

The Los Angeles coastal area was inhabited by the Tongva (or Gabrieleños), Chumash, and earlier Native American nations for thousands of years. The firt Europeans arrived in 1522, when a Portuguese explorer, Juan Cabrillo discovered the area for the Portuguese empire. In 1771 a spanish mission from the "New Spain", led by Fater Junipero Serra, reached the present site of Los Angeles which was in that time "a pueblo" (village)

In 1777, the new governor of California, Felipe de Neve recommended to the viceroy of New Spain the developement of the "pueblo". The town of Los Angeles was created under the name of "El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles del rio Porciuncula". It was a small town of 650 inhabitants.

In 1821, the New Spain declared it independance and became Mexico. The town became a part of it.

California became an American state in1847, at the end of the hostilities between the mexican and the American because of the Mexican-Amreican War. American take control of California after many battle, especially The Battle ofSan Pascual, the Battle of Domingez Rancho, and ultimately, the Battle of Rio San Gabriel. The Mexican signed the ended of the hostilities in California on the 13th January of 1847. Americans took the control of all the cities in California and many of them immigrated to this cities during the Gold Rush. California became officially an American state in 1850.

26 years later, the Railroads arrived in Los Angeles. In this time Los Angeles was really famous in all the country for the culture of oranges.

In 1860, there were 2300 inhabitants in Los Angeles and more than 100 000 40 years later; the town became bigger and bigger and take the control of the city which is near it. The Oil discovered in 1893 explain the developement of the city.

In 1920, the motion picture and the aviation industries became really important for the city. the developpement of the city became amazing; The city became at this time the (prospère) city that everybody know nowadays.
