Jackson Pollock was born in 1912 and he died in 1956. He said "Let the painting float into your mind and try to receive what it has to offer. An abstract painting should be enjoyed just as music is enjoyed - after a while you may like it or you may not, but at least give it a chance." -Pollock. This sentence explains the concept of expressionism and shows how much the painter believes in this way of communication.
