SYD BARRET

Roger "Syd" Barrett was born the 6th january 1946 in Cambridge, England. He was associated to the psychedelic current since his beginnings in the 60s. Singer, song-writer and guitarist, he created Pink Floyd and gave to it its personnality which stayed during a long time.

He is the autor of the first album, "The Piper at the Gates of Down" in 1967, and of an important part of "A Saucerful of Secrets". But since the year 1967, Syr Barret started to show mental instabilities and Pink Floyd was obliged to call Gilmour as a second guitarist. He had difficulties in play on scene and was sometimes totaly out of concert. Syd started to show serious mental disorders and he finally left the group after the second album, which stays a very good album. Gilmour replace him in the band, but a lot of Fans and specialists was saying that Pink Floyd couldn't continue without the "Genius Syd", and if the group suceed to write album after the departure of Syd, it's thanks to their new style. They never arrived to keep the eccentric humour and the mad energy of the game of Syd.

The genius started a solo career, with help of various artists, such as David Gilmour, but the works of Syd without the stability of Pink Floyd coudn't become masterpieces.
A lot of people say that abuse drug and huge success in youth transformed him, the musician being today xenophrene and contained on himself. He is still alive, in his aunt flat in London, and in 2001, the album "Wouldn't You Miss Me: The Best Of Syd Barret" started to be sold.

DAVID GILMOUR

David Gilmour was born two month after Syd, the 6th march 1946 in Cambridge. Friend of the first components of Pink Floyd, he accepted to join the group to complete Syd's guitar parts. Gilmour finally became singer and main guitarist of the group to finish "A Saucerful of Secrets"

In 1970, Gilmour helped Syd for his two albums, composing almost all the songs.
He composed solo albums during his life, in particular during the pauses before "The Wall" and during the little time of separation after "The Final Cut", but he wasn't statisfied of his works, it is why he finally recreated Pink Floyd in 1986, with Wright and Mason, becoming the leader of Pink Floyd for the first time since twenty years. He composed almost the totality of the last albums of Pink Floyd.

Dave can be considered as one of the best musicians of modern music, because of his talent to make his guitar crying, and his wonderful compsitions. He goes on a European tour since February, with is new masterpiece "on the island", a fabulous demonstration of his talents of musicians.

ROGER WATERS

Roger Waters was born in 1944, 6th september in Cambridge too. He met Barrett in an Art lesson. Later, he moved to London to stude Architecture in the Regent Street Polytechnix, where he met Nick Mason and Richard Wright, a drumer and a keyboard player. He was singer and played bass guitar in his small band "Sigma 6". After the arrival of Syd in Pink Floyd, Waters became a simple co-writer, composing 3 songs in "the Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and 3 in "A Saucerful of Secrets", but after the departure of Syd because of mind-trouble, Waters took control of Pink Floyd, and write quasi-entirely the albums since "More", and particulary "Animals", "The Wall" and "the Final Cut", which was almost a solo realization of Waters.

After the dissolution of the band, Waters started an important solo career.
When Gilmour, Mason and Wright wanted to restart the Pink Floyd story, Waters put the three musicians on trial because he doesn't want them to work with the name "Pink Floyd" but he lost his case against them. He realized a lot of good albums, and in 1990 he did a giant concert in berlin "The Wall Live in Berlin", which contained a lot of musicians ( Van Morrison, Sinead O'Connor, Scorpions, Joni Mitchell... ).

Waters always felt ill-at-ease during concerts and has been often criticized by fans, but we have to be honnest, Waters had largely contributed to Pink Floyd' success and stay a true genius of psychedelic music.

NICK MASON

Nicholas Berkeley "Nick" Mason was born the 27th of january 1945 in Birmingham. Drumer of Pink Floyd, he is the only member who stayed in the group since the beginnings to until today. He met Waters and Wright, the others members of "Sigma 6" in the Regent Street Polytechnic. Nick Mason is a melting-style musician: In add to his work on Pink Floyd, he helped a lot of others bands of different genres, since Jazz to Punk music.

He is now on a solo career, realising a lot of different albums with different musicians, in particular Gilmour. He played with Carla Berley too, saxophonist in "the Dark Side of the Moon". Today, he has his own production company, and he spend a lot of time to his other passion, the hot cars.

Nick Mason is very appreciated by the fans of Pink Floyd because of his impressing drums game and his decontracted style.

RICHARD WRIGHT

Richard "Rick" Wright was born the 28 of july 1945 in London. He was in the Regent Street Polyctechnic too. Richard was a genius of sounds effects, and stays today one of the best keyboard player. In spite of his small place in Pink Floyd, He marked some album (such as The Dark Side of the Moon) with his rare compositions, bu he stayed "invited" on a lot of albums, since 1978 to 1994, with "the Division Bell".

After the lasts concerts of Pink Floyd in 1994-95, Rick worked on a new album "Broken China", with a very new-age style.
