The Afro-Americans created Jazz by mixing their traditional cultures. The first jazz band appeared at the begginnig of the 20th century in New Orleans in Louisiana.The first jazz musicians were black .They played cheap instruments like the guitar and the banjo, or brass instruments the armies didn’t use any more after the Civil War.Jazz is charectized by a subtle sense of rhythm called swing and by improvisation.
