Alexander
Mc Queen is a British fashion designer ; he got the title of Fashion Designer
of the Year 2003 by the CFDA ; he had already won the title of «
British Designer of the Year » four times : in 1996, 1997, 2001
and 2003 ; furthermore, during the same month in 2003, he was named “Most
Excellent Commander of The British Empire” (CBE) by her Majesty
the Queen. Alexander Mc Queen was also awarded “British Menswear
Designer of the Year” in 2004.
He founded his own brand in 2002, which has now stores all over the world
: from New-York to Milan, in Los Angeles and London of course.
Alexander Mac Queen was born on the 17th of March, 1969, in London. His real name is Lee McQueen. He left school at the age of 16 and started an apprenticeship for the technical construction of clothing ; then he mastered 6 methods of pattern cutting from the 16th century.
In 1989, Alexander McQueen has worked for Koji Tatsuno, a designer. A year later, Alexander McQueen moved to Milan, where he was Romeo Gigli’s design assistant.
He finally came back to London in 1994 where he completed his master degree in Fashion Design.
In 1996, Alexander McQueen was appointed Chief Designer at the French Haute Couture House Givenchy where he worked until March 2001.
In 2002 at least, Alexander McQueen decided to found his own brand ; he uses a lot of juxtapositions contrasting elements : tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity, ... He has the British knowledge, the fine workmanship of the French Haute Couture atelier and the perfect finish of Italian manufacturing. He adds the originality : each collection has a specific theme, and his fashion shows are real spectacles.
Now Alexander McQueen has other collections : Eyeswear, Menswear (since 2004), perfumes (two for women), and accessories.
He works with many artists, not only fashion artists : the jeweller Shaun Leane, the singer Björk, Pagan Poetry, ...
He is one of the young hopefuls of the fashion.
