Alber
Elbaz won the title of the fashion designer of the year in 2005. This man
was born in Casblanca and spent his childhood in Tel-Aviv, in Israël.
He likes elegance, and is optimistic. He loves black colour (he says it
is “the deeper colour”), drawing shoes, and prefers winter...
because of his work, which is to wear people and not the contrary !

Alber Elbaz was born on the 12th of June, 1961.
He raised in Israël : he learnt fashion in the Shenkar College of design,
the most distinguished school in Israel, and in the School of Fashion and
Textile in Ramat-Gan near Tel-Aviv, despite his parents who wanted him to
become a doctor.
He started his work in New-York in October 1988, during eight years : he
was the right-hand of man the American high society designer Geoffrey Beene.
Then, in September 1996, he was chosen by Ralph Tolédano to improve
Guy Laroche’s french brand.
In November 1998, Yves Saint-Laurent asks him to do his “Rive Gauche”
collection for women, and Alber Elbaz will do three collections. In 2001,
Tom Ford takes his place.
Elbaz then began working for Krizia in Italy and designed a well-received
inaugural collection, but the circumstances were not to his liking.
Since 2002, the fashion designer Alber Elbaz is the artistic director for
Lanvin womenswear, a French house founded in 1885, and the journalists all
say he is worthy of Jeanne Lanvin : he mixes modernity and feminity. Now,
there are a shoes’collection, a bag’s collection, ...
“Elbaz is every woman's darling, wrote Suzy Menkes for the International
Herald Tribune, in May 2005. And that includes Nicole (as in Kidman), Kate
(Moss), Chloé Sevigny, Sofia Coppola.” But Kate Winslet and
a lot of other actresses love his collections.
Alber Elbaz has won a lot of titles : the Goldene Spinnrad in Krefeld in
Germany, in October 1997 ; the Fashion Award of the best fashion designer
in Shangai, China, in October 2003 ; the Fashion Award of the best fashion
designer in Madrid, in Spain, in November 2004 ; the Fashion Award in Kuala
Limpur, in Malaisia during the same year ; in May 2005, he was named honorary
member of the Shenkar College of Tel-Aviv, in Israel ; at least, he was
named Knight of the Legion of Honour on the 25th of January, 2007 ! Furthermore,
the magazine Vogue has named him among the three most talented fashion designers.
