Miuccia Prada is an Italian fashion designer ; she is the granddaughter of the incorporator of the brand Prada, which was first a tannery. She drew bags and accessories, but she has always refused to create jewels, perfumes or watches.
Miuccia Prada made the collection Miu-Miu (for Miuccia), which is less expensive and more young, and won an International Award of the CFDA in 1993 for it.
Miuccia Prada has also created a Contemporary Art Foundation with her husband Patrizio Bertelli.
She was considered by the Wall Street Journal as one of the thirty most powerful women of the world.

 

Miuccia Prada was born in 1949.
She left university in 1970, with a Political Science Certificate and in 1971, she started working in her grandfasther’s tannery, where she drew bags and accessories.
But Miuccia Prada had spent five years studying mime in Milan, and was a paid-up member of the Communist party. Moreover, in the seventies’, she was a champion of women’s rights.
In 1978, she met her husband and business partner Patrizio Bertelli, a leather manufacturer and here started the revolution of Prada : together, they made a shoes collection to boost the brand.
In 1985, she founded a new line of black, unlabelled but finely-woven nylon handbags, which was worn, for example, by Jerry Hall and Marie Helvin.
In 1988 appeared a women collection, and in 1993 Miu-Miu, a ready-to-wear collection, is created.
In 1994, Miuccia Prada launched the menswear collection. During the same year, she did her first fashion show in New-York, and opened a store in London.
In 2007, Prada created a mobile phone, with LG.
Miuccia Prada is in charge of the company creative decisions, and sometimes clothes have to be changed hundred times to be exactly as she wants.
Today, Prada has many stores everywhere in the world, from New-York to Tokyo.
